Mountain View Four-Plex Damaged by Fire
At 1:00pm on Thursday, November 13, AFD Communications received a 911 call from a resident in at 4221 Peterkin Avenue reporting a fire in the kitchen. Twelve units from the Anchorage Fire Department were immediately dispatched to the one-story Mountain View four-plex. Medic 3 and Engine 3 were first to arrive in less than four minutes and made a fast attack on the fully involved apartment. All four apartments were searched for occupants and discovered that residents safely evacuated. Two residents were home in two separate apartments at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. The fire was called under control within 20 minutes.
The apartment of origin is considered a total loss; firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the unit of origin so adjacent apartments sustained minor smoke damage only. The Red Cross is assisting two families with shelter. Damage is estimated at $20,000. The fire originated in the kitchen and the exact cause is currently under investigation.
