Eagle River Road House Fire
Anchorage Firefighters responded to a house fire around 11:30 p.m. last night, November, 3 2009 located at around Mile 9 Eagle River Road. Twelve AFD apparatus responded to the fire and were augmented by two Tenders from the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Dept. Fire operations were hampered by difficulty accessing the home and having to pump water nearly 1000’ up hill. Water was drafted from nearby Eagle River to supply portable tank operations. It took firefighters an hour and half to bring the blaze under control. Red Cross provided canteen services to the firefighters in working in sub-zero temperatures. One occupant was home at the time of the fire and escaped safely. Initial observations by fire crews believe the blaze began in the area of a wood stove. Loss is estimated at $300K.
