Anchorage Fire Explorer Annual Recruitment

The Anchorage Fire Explorer Post’s fall recruitment will commence on August 29^th at 6:30 pm at the AFD Training Center.  Returning AFD Explorers will begin the evening with a skill demonstration and a meet and greet with numerous AFD personnel.  Attendance is mandatory for new applicants; applications will be accepted and interviews will be scheduled.  Explorers will also be visiting all the ASD high schools in coming weeks to recruit individuals to become part of the team.

The Anchorage Fire Explores will be recruiting up to 20 individuals.  New members must be between the ages of 14 and 21, be available to attend weekly meetings and maintain a high school GPA of at least 2.0. The Explorer program is designed to offer skills development in firefighting, EMS and advanced rescue. It follows a paramilitary structure which serves as an introduction to the organization flow of most Fire/EMS systems in the US. These skills have been proven to help catapult individuals into the next level in pursuing a career not only in the fire service but in life.

The Anchorage Fire Explorers are affiliated with Learning for Life and works in partnership with the Anchorage Fire Department.  The Explorer program is overseen by Anchorage Fire Explorer Advisors, who are AFD firefighters who use their everyday experience in teaching the variety of skills to the Explorers.  Many of the Advisors have been Explorers who have returned to the program to pass on their knowledge and skills to the next generation of young adults.  More information is available at www.post264.com or via email at post264@post264.com.
