AFD Firefighter Combat Challenge team currently ranked #1 in the world!
On Saturday August 4th, AFD members Clay Hamilton, Dan Stevens, Erich Patrawke, and Kevin Woolsey competed in Fremont, CA in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge. They competed against three time defending world champions Travis Air force base and the reigning number one ranked team in 2007, Team North Bay of California. During the challenge, they won the team competition and also set the fastest team time of 2007, making them the number one ranked team in the world. All team members also set new personal records.
The Challenge seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's rigors to the public. Wearing "full bunker gear" and their Air-Pak breathing apparatus, competitors simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked series of five tasks including climbing the 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. "victim" as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.
The AFD team will soon be competing at the U.S National Championships in Atlanta, and finishing up the season in Las Vegas at World Challenge XVI.
